Network cabling and Wi-Fi installation in Luxembourg

An RJ45 outlet that never reaches full speed, Wi-Fi that drops when the room fills up, a patch cabinet with no labels: we design, pull, test and document your network — from a studio flat to a full office floor.

A network is no longer an accessory; it is a trade in its own right, on a par with the electrical installation. IP telephony, remote working, point-of-sale terminals, wireless access points, PoE security cameras, video door stations and heating sensors all run over the same copper today. Putting power and data in the hands of one State-licensed electrician removes the usual finger-pointing between trades: conduits are in before the screed, and clearances from 230 V cables are respected from the first drilled hole.

We work in Luxembourg City, Kirchberg, Howald, Esch-sur-Alzette, Strassen, Bertrange, Differdange and Dudelange, as well as across the French and Belgian border zone. Every job ends the same way: every link tested, every outlet labelled, and a test report plus a cabling plan handed over to you. A network nobody can read is a network that gets rebuilt at the first office move — and the building owner pays for it twice.

What we cable

We install structured copper cabling in RJ45 Cat 6a or Cat 7, in-building fibre for riser and building-to-building links, coaxial for the cable distribution still found in many buildings, and every PoE link that powers access points, cameras and door stations straight from the data cable. Outlets and faceplates are matched to your existing wiring accessories — Legrand, Schneider Electric or Hager — so the network stays out of sight.

In new build we pre-cable during the shell phase: conduits, back boxes and spare draw wires towards the future technical room. In refurbishment we work with what is there — slim trunking, suspended ceilings, existing conduits where they are free, the occasional core drill — keeping making-good and repainting to a minimum.

Patch cabinet and technical room

Every link comes back to one place: the patch cabinet. We fit 6U to 12U wall cabinets for homes and small offices, and 19-inch floor-standing racks for office floors. Inside: patch panel, switch, UPS where it is needed, and above all order — every panel port carries the number of the outlet it serves, every patch lead is the right length, and bundles run through proper cable management.

The cabinet has electrical needs of its own: a dedicated protected circuit, enough sockets inside the enclosure, and ventilation sized for the equipment. A switch shut inside an unventilated cupboard is the single most common cause of unexplained summer outages.

Professional Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi that holds up under load does not come from a box on a shelf. We start with a coverage study: floor area, partitions, materials, number of simultaneous devices, critical zones. From that we derive how many access points you need, where they sit on the ceiling and which channel each one uses, then feed them over PoE from the cabinet — one cable per access point, no power bricks at height.

We then separate uses with VLANs: staff network, isolated guest network, a dedicated network for tills and payment terminals, another for building services. In a restaurant or a shop this stops customers in the room sharing bandwidth with the till. Consumer mesh kits are a sensible answer in a small flat, but they have no place in a commercial space where downtime is measured in euros.

IP intercoms and video door stations

An IP door station runs on the same cabling as the rest of the network. We install street panels with a camera, an indoor monitor and door release from a smartphone, for detached houses as much as for small apartment buildings with several call buttons.

The real benefit of an IP panel appears when it joins the rest of the system: same cable, same PoE supply, footage recorded alongside the cameras, and the strike driven by your badge access control where you have one. We always run the route from the gate or front door back to the cabinet, even when the panel itself is fitted later.

Home, office, shop, restaurant

Home: two to four outlets per living space, a feed in the study and one behind the television, one access point per floor, a discreet wall cabinet in the utility room or garage.

Office: a pair of outlets per desk, a dedicated link for each multifunction printer, ceiling access points across the meeting areas, and a cabinet sized to take a server or a NAS.

Shop: tills and payment terminals on an isolated network, customer Wi-Fi on a guest VLAN, PoE links to the cameras and to the window display.

Restaurant: ordering terminals in the dining room and on the terrace, a wired kitchen printer rather than a wireless one, and coverage designed for a full room rather than an empty one.

Testing, certification and documentation

Cabling cannot be judged by eye. Every link is checked with a certifier: length, continuity, pair mapping, attenuation, crosstalk. Links that fail are reworked before commissioning, never afterwards. You receive the test report link by link, labelling at both ends, and a cabling plan that places every outlet on the building drawing.

We work to the EN 50173 series on generic cabling systems and to the Luxembourg national standard ILNAS 108:2025 on vertical cabling in residential and mixed-use buildings, ratified on 29 October 2025. It is our reference whenever a project touches the risers of a residential or mixed-use building.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a fitted RJ45 outlet cost?

The price depends on the length of the link, how hard the route is (free conduit, suspended ceiling, chased wall), the category chosen (Cat 6a or Cat 7) and above all the quantity: the tenth outlet costs far less than the first, because the cabinet, the route and the call-out are shared. We survey the site and give you an itemised quote within 24 h.

Cat 6a or Cat 7: which should I choose?

Cat 6a carries 10 Gbit/s over 100 metres, which covers a home and the vast majority of offices. Fully shielded Cat 7 earns its place in noisy environments — plant rooms, workshops, long runs alongside power cables. Remember that the chain is only as good as its weakest link: a cheap outlet or poor patch leads will cancel out the benefit of a premium cable.

After the POST connection (PBO/ONT), who cables the inside?

The operator brings the fibre to the optical connection point and fits the ONT; that is where their work stops. Everything after that — the link from the ONT to the cabinet, the outlets, the patching, the access points — is the electrician's job. We prepare the fibre arrival before the technician calls: conduit, space for the ONT, a socket nearby and a route up to the cabinet.

How long does it take to cable a house or an office?

Pre-cabling a house in new build is usually two to three days over two visits: conduits during the shell phase, pulling and fitting once the partitions are up. In an occupied refurbishment, allow three to five days for the same volume, since the route takes longer than the cable. On an office floor, the number of desks and the coordination with the partitioning and ceiling contractors set the duration; we quote it in days after the survey.

Consumer mesh or professional access points?

In a flat or a small house, a well-placed mesh kit does the job and costs less. As soon as you are dealing with a dining room, an office floor or a shop, professional ceiling access points on PoE are the right answer: seamless roaming, guest VLAN, controlled channels and monitoring.

What is the ILNAS 108 standard?

ILNAS 108:2025 is a Luxembourg national standard, ratified on 29 October 2025, covering vertical cabling in residential and mixed-use buildings — the risers that serve the flats. It complements the European EN 50173 series on generic cabling. We apply it on building projects and, after a site visit, we can tell you what it means for an existing riser.
